Introduction to the ISO 2768-M General Tolerances for Turning and Milling Cutters Standard. This standard is intended to specify general tolerances for all kind of cutters used in turning and milling operations. It provides tolerances for different sizes of the cutter toolholders, different orientations of cutting tools, standard deviations in size and form accuracy, allowances for machining errors caused by incorrect setups through the whole process etc. In general, ISO Standard 2768-M should be used to ensure the accuracy of the machining operations. ISO2768-M is a general tolerance standard used to express the level of precision for a part produced by cutting. It should only be applied to parts that have been produced by any kind of turning or milling operation. The ISO tolerances should only be used when the standards that govern that particular industry, such as ANSI B 89, do not exist or are inadequate. ISO2768-M is based on ISO Standard 9001:2000 which was released in June 1999. This standard has been superseded by ISO2768-M series of standards.
